Guardian: The Choir Warden

The warden of the choir: a colossus assembled from the bones of hundreds of singers.

The Bone Choir was founded by the Church of the Flame: hundreds of singers chosen to chant the hymn that quickens the Ember Heart's pulse. When they died their singing did not die with them; their bones sing on in the deep pits.

So the hymn would never break, the Church assembled a warden from the bones of its finest voices. Dozens of skulls are fused into its giant shoulders and arms, mouths open in endless song, and the bronze bells at its waist keep the beat. The choir's violet cloth still hangs around a ribcage wide enough to hold a grown man.

The Choir Warden knows no hatred and no fear, only its one duty: keep the hymn going, for as long as the hymn sounds the Ember Heart keeps beating. Whoever breaks the rhythm is ground down into new bones for the choir.
